Spilling coffee on your beautiful carpet can be a devastating experience. Coffee stains can leave your carpet looking old and filthy, especially if your carpet is white or ivory. Using organic cleansers to get rid of stains can help keep your carpet looking fresh and cleaned without leaving behind any toxic chemical residue or toxic odor. By using organic cleaning methods, you ensure the safety of your family, pets, and even yourself if you may be pregnant, have allergic reactions, or just don’t like the idea of inhaling any toxins. Luckily, there are ways that you can avoid long term damage of a stain as long as you know a few basic common steps about using natural organic based products that you already have in your home. Reacting to coffee spills immediately can help prevent long-term stubborn stains from setting in.

Here are a few steps to help effectively remove coffee stains from your carpet:

  • Blot the area with a clean white cloth or paper towel to absorb all the liquid you can. Blot from the outside of the stain in to avoid spreading the stain.
  • Mix one clear teaspoon of a mild organic liquid soap or detergent with one cup of lukewarm water and sponge the area with the organic soap solution. Blot again with a clean, white cloth.
  • Mix 1/3 cup white vinegar with 2/3 cup lukewarm water and sponge the area with the vinegar solution. Blot with a clean, white cloth.
  • Sponge the area with clean water. Blot with a clean, white cloth.
  • To dry the carpet place a clean dry sturdy paper towels over the damp spot. Place a plastic bag over them in order to avoid direct contact with the damp area.

Additional tips and advisories:

  • You can mix the organic solution in a spray bottle to spray directly on the stain.
  • A clean white cloth ensures that dyes from the cloth won’t run into the carpet.
  • Avoid rubbing or scrubbing because this will cause the stain to spread.
  • Rubbing will push the stain deeper and possibly into the base of the carpet or even the padding. This will cause the stain to resurface eventually.
